THIN SKIN Causes and treatment

Thin skin on your face? Find out here how parchment skin develops and what you can do about it.

How thin skin develops

The texture of our skin (unfortunately) does not remain identical in our entire life. Especially the area around the cheeks and the nose is very prone to thin skin, also known as parchment skin.

But how does this happen in the first place? First and foremost, the development of parchment skin is due to our natural aging process. The following causes can be the trigger:

Lack of moisture (Reduced production of hyaluronic acid).
Reduced formation of collagen, elastin
Hormonal changes
Slower metabolism
Excessive influence of the sun on the skin
Poor air quality
Consumption of tobacco and alcohol
Diseases of the liver or diabetes

By the way, the aging process is usually first seen on the face. But the area around the neck, hands, feet and legs are not immune to parchment skin. A good day cream moisturizes and protects the face from rapid aging.

Symptoms of thin skin

You are unsure whether you already suffer from parchment skin? You can identify thin skin especially when you "pinch" it, because for a short time a wrinkle appears when you do so. Often, small veins are also accompanied by thin skin. This is due to the fact that the skin is thinner in its coating, so that veins and the like stand out more.

Aging processes of the skin

From about 30 years of age: The skin begins to produce less moisture, the first lines appear on the forehead or wrinkles around the eyes.
From about 40 years: The skin loses more elasticity and firmness. In addition, the aging process also causes the skin to regenerate for a longer period of time, for example also after the consumption of alcohol.
From about 50 years: Now the parchment skin slowly becomes more noticeable. Also, the first pigment spots (age-related) may appear on the face or hands.
From about 60 years: From redness to veins, thin skin now holds many surprises. The depth of wrinkles and loss of elasticity of the skin are familiar to many people over 60.
From about 70 years: At this age, the skin renews itself much more slowly and thus becomes more susceptible to external stimuli. Wound healing now requires significantly more time.

Thin skin: disease?

Even if dry, thinning skin usually has natural causes, diseases can also be hidden behind the changed skin appearance or trigger them. If, for example, bruising occurs because the thin blood vessels tear or the skin tends to tear even with slight friction, a doctor should be contacted in any case.

If you have problems covering your vitamin needs, you can take high-quality vitamin C or also vitamin D, which is so important especially in winter, via dietary supplements.
Sleep: Sleep gives the skin the urgently needed time to regenerate. Therefore, it is important that you get enough sleep, usually 7 to 8 hours per night.
